CRISIS ROCKS ANAMBRA COMMUNITY OVER TOWN UNION ELECTION
The OJOTO people of Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State took to the street yesterday to demonstrate peacefully over what they described as the imposition of town union leadership on them
The protesters numbering over three hundred who gave their name as “Reclaim OJOTO Group” were chanting protest songs in front of Anambra State Government House,Awka.
They were carrying placards with the inscription : “The authentic result of town union election must be upheld”.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the peaceful protest, one of the coordinators, Rev Uche Udenabor, explained that they were protesting over what he described as imposition of town union leadership by their Igwe and members of his cabinets, saying that OJOTO community held Town Union Election recently which was coordinated by the Anambra State Government through the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters but their Igwe and some elements insisted the election must be cancelled.
Rev Udenabor who is popularly known as “Ambassador ‘also accused the Igwe of OJOTO and some members of his cabinet of relentless efforts to thwart the efforts of Anambra State Government towards having a peaceful community in the state, alleging that Igwe wanted his two cabinet members to take position of the secretary and deputy president -general as against the wish of the people of OJOTO
He however, maintained that the election was free and fair as supervised by the representatives of Anambra State Government from the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
But Rev Udenabor accused Igwe of having severally petitioned Hon Tony Collins NWABUNWANNE, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, alleging that he had collected bribe from the people the traditional ruler.
He begged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to ensure that the election which reflected the popular wish of the people was upheld, pointing out that was the only thing that could sustsin peace in OJOTO.
Also speaking, the women leader , Mrs Ngozi Okafor , told journalists that OJOTO has been in crisis since the election was held and duly elected members were not sworn in, saying that OJOTO has been without direction since then.
Mrs Okafor pleaded with Governor Soludo not to allow those, she said, have selfish interest to mislead him, stating that OJOTO people have made their choice of leaders and nobody would impose unpopular leadership on them.
In the same vein, Mrs Amaka Mmaduabum, who spoke in consonance with other speakers prayed the Anambra State Government to avoid people she described as multi faceted human beings, noting that these same people were the architect of all the crises in Ojoto
